After you get your ears pierced, it’s important to take care of them properly. Learn how to take care of them and watch for signs that you might need to give us a call.
To prevent the piercing from closing, 14K Gold or Platinum stud earrings must be worn day and night, 24/7, during the healing period; which is about 12 weeks for most people.
Using the "After Piercing Lotion" on a clean cotton swab, clean your ear lobes twice a day, front and back, during the entire healing period. If you have any adverse reaction to the antiseptics; use a mild antibacterial liquid soap; making sure to rinse your ears thoroughly afterwards. YOU SHOULD NEVER USE ALCOHOL OR HYDROGEN PEROXIDE on your ears; as this will slow the healing process by drying and destroying healthy new cell development.
Each Earring back must always stay in the groove near the end of the earring post to allow your new piercing to "breath" and promote proper healing. This is the reason we recommends long post earrings.
Infection Although rare, if you should notice any signs of an infection (redness, persistent pain, fever, or swelling) apply a topical antibiotic to the front and back of the lobe for a couple of days. DO NOT REMOVE EARRINGS. If symptoms should persist please give us a call or visit your doctor.
Hair If your hair gets caught or wrapped around your earrings gently remove the back and remove the hair. DO NOT REMOVE EARRING. If the hair should break off and get into the piercing it may cause an infection.
The price of your piercing includes a 4 week check-up* after the date of the piercing. This 4 week check-up includes the practice of removing the earrings, cleaning the earrings with alcohol on a cotton ball, wiping your ears with "After Piercing Lotion" front and back, coating the post with petroleum jelly and re-inserting the earrings back into the ears. After the 4th week, the above procedure should be repeated at least every other day and anytime you change your earrings during the healing process.
A 2 hour test is done at the end of the 12 weeks after your ears were pierced to see if your piercing have completely healed. At this time you should take out your earrings and leave them out for 2 hours. After 2 hours your earrings should go back in smoothly without discomfort. If the earrings can be inserted easily then the piercing is completely healed and you are now ready to sleep WITHOUT earrings. If your earrings do not go back in easily, your ears may not be completely healed. You should continue wearing your earrings 24/7 for two more weeks and then repeat the above 2 hour test. You will know when your ears have completely healed when your earrings go in easily after the 2 hour test.
You should never wear earrings with screw backs or threaded post; irregular shaped post (not round), post that are too short; post that are too large in diameter or wire hoops. Until your ears are completely healed you should only wear 14K gold or platinum. Other metals may contain nickel or copper which may cause a lifetime allergic reaction if worn before your piercings have healed completely.
Earring post should always be at least 11mm or longer. The back should always stay in the groove on the post near the end. The post should always be straight and round with a smooth connection where the posts meet the earring. The back should have a smooth flat surface facing the back of the ear.
